Everyone is aware of Google. It is the most widely used search engine in the world. Google is considered to be one of the best, if not the best search engine of all time. The company Google is considered to be a technological giant and a threat to other tech giants, for example Microsoft. Google’s creators Larry Page and Sergey Binn, started this company in 1995. Google was first developed to be a search engine, but it has crown to the point where it can be used as an internet browser also. Unlike its competitor Microsoft Internet Explorer, it has to be compatible with certain browsers in order to function at its fullest potential. Examine the culture of the selected organization. Google’s corporate culture began with its founder’s philosophy, the famous 10 tenets. (Lisa Jackson 2013). And since Google is still controlled by its founders, that means that the culture in part of the company’s mantra. Google’s founders Larry Page and Sergey Binn believe that trust is one of the most important aspects for the culture at Google. Google mission is a culture of choice. That is they are not a conventional company in the sense that they are not a slave to Wall Street, and that allows them to build a culture that will deliver on this mission and that is principally organized to drive innovation. (Jeff Jarvis, 2013). Because of this trust that Google foster’s to their employees, they are allowed to take risk, while being innovative. And with innovation comes feedback and collaboration. With this type of corporate culture at Google, their employees are much more enthusiastic about the ideas that they present to the founders. There is not right or wrong way at Google, they are visionaries and as such can implement and idea, and if it works, that fantastic, if the idea does not work, then  back to the drawing board. Again, it all stems from the trust ideas from the founders. Google’s culture is very unique. At Google, they believe that if you focus on the user, all else will follow. They also believe that democracy on the web works and also that there is always more information out there. These are three out of the ten tenets that the founders of Google stand by. With these types of statements from one of the largest technological companies, it is no wonder that Google is considered the number 1 place to work in the United States. It’s because the founders allow the staff to develop ideas, make mistakes and they celebrate the failure instead of reprimanding or terminating the staff. This seemingly laid back culture fuels the imagination of the staff and gets them always looking for ways to improve not just the company, but themselves as well. Explain how you determined that the selected organization showed the signs of the culture that you have identified. When I decided to do rese arch on Google, and their culture, I decided to look at why this company is considered one of the best places to work in the United States. I asked myself, why is this company so popular? Why are their employees always happy? First you look at the culture. The founders believe in letting their employees be free to be innovative. They have a t-shirt and jeans work atmosphere, freedom to make mistakes and start over again, etc. This is only part of the culture. Another aspect of the Google environment is ensuring that their employees are adequately compensated. Their benefits are also excellent. Google’s employees enjoy free health and dental, free breakfast lunch and dinner. They also have an organic chef that caters to the needs of the employees. Google found that women were leaving the company at twice the rate of everyone else. In particular, this occurred with new mothers. Google’s maternity leave plan was 12 weeks paid time off. Human Resources changed the plan so new mothers could get 5 months paid time off with full pay and benefits. They were allowed to split this time up however they want. The result after the change in policy? A 50% reduction in attrition for new mothers. Google tries to hire and retain the best employees. They do this based on data. When this data is collected, they u se this information to gauge employees and improve their productivity.   Determine the factors that caused the organization to embody this particular culture. For Google, it seems as if the corporate culture that they have right now is doing just  fine. Google was name the top place to work in 2012. But if for some reason, they did decide to change their corporate culture, I think it would be to continue to enhance on the 10 tenets that was there from conception. Of course as time, and concepts changes over time, innovators such as Larry Page and Sergey Brinn will have to change as well.But, with a new CEO, Larry Page who is excited about leading the team into product development and technology strategy, but also keeping the core of the company for what it was when they first started. Google is efficient and effective. Fortune magazine reported that Google does more business than their entire competitor combined, plus they do it at a lower cost. Because Google has a casual and democratic atmosphere, resulting in its distinction as a â€Å"Flat† company. The company does not boast a large middle management, and upper management is so hands on, it’s hard to qualify them in a separate category. Teams are made up of members with equal authority and a certain level of autonomy is maintained.   Determine what type of leader would be best suited for this organization. Support your position. The type of leader that would be best suited for Google is a Transformational Leader. Transformational leadership is a type of leadership style that can inspire positive changes in those who follow. Transformational leaders are generally energetic, enthusiastic, and passionate. Not only are these leaders concerned and involved in the process; they are also focused on helping every member of the group succeed as well. Through the strength of their vision and personality, transformational leaders are able to inspire followers to change expectations, perceptions, and motivations to work towards common goals. They have the ability to garner trust, respect and admiration from their followers.   Imagine that there is a decline in the demand of products or services supplied by the selected organization. Determine what the change in culture would need to be in response to this situation. If for some reason there is a decline for the products and services supplied by Google, I think that the founders will continue to have the same culture that they originally started the company with. And I say that because, so far that culture seems to be what has Google as one of the top tech giants in the world. Of course, the founders Larry Page and Sergey Binn, being the visionaries that they are, as times and concepts changes over time, they will have to change as well. The Latest Treatment for Migraines Headaches are among the most common health complaints today. According to the National Headache Foundation in Chicago, 45 million Americans suffer from recurring headaches—16 to 18 million of which are migraines (1). Migraines are vascular headaches because they involve the swelling of the brain's blood vessels (2). The occurrence of migraine headaches, contrary to popular belief, is a disease. If you suffer from migraines you might be used to people comparing your migraine to a headache or trying to blame these "headaches" on you and your lifestyle. However, migraines are caused by the expansion of blood vessels whereas regular headaches area caused by the constriction of blood vessels. Although certain things such as harsh lighting, movement, or chocolate may trigger a migraine, the actual cause of this vessel swelling is unknown and may vary from person to person. Currently, there is no cure for migraine (3). One theory as to the cause of migraines lies in excitement of the nervous system caused by stress, anxiety, or some unknown (4). A more recent form of treatment known as neurobiofeedback actually works by allowing patients to train their brains to function at a more relaxed mental state. The success of this treatment may indicate that increased neuron activity is one of the more common causes of migraines. Neurobiofeedback has been identified as successful for migraines precipitated by PMS, food allergies, or stress. It is not clear exactly how food allergies are related to increased nerve activity. Stress, however, regardless of the type, seems to be strongly correlated with migraines as it will determine the severity of the headache. Neurobiofeedback goes to the root of this problem and, as a result, is one of the more preferred methods of treatment (5). Biofeedback, in general, is a technique in which the body's responses to specific stimuli are measured in order to give patients knowledge about how they physically react to various events. In the case of headaches, patients can condition their mind or body to react differently to pre-headache symptoms and prevent a headache from occurring (1). Neurobio or electroencephalogram (EEG) feedback, specifically, measures brain wave activity and feeds back to a patient their own brain wave patterns so that they can modify these patterns through game-like computer simulations (6). Why does this work? Brain waves are recordings of electrical changes in the brain.

The Enraged Black Readers of Their Eyes Were Watching God         Although Hurston's novel Their Eyes Were Watching God is a widely read novel today, that wasn't always the case. When her novel was first published, many black readers were enraged. It wasn't until the early seventies when Hurston's novel was rediscovered. What aspects of the novel enraged the readers so that it would be forgotten for more than thirty years?    One of the most important aspects of the novel that enraged the black readers was Hurston's portrayal of the white people. Readers complained that Hurston wasn't harsh enough in her critique of the white people's treatment towards the black people. Rather than portraying whites as the stereotypical "Simon Legree" of Uncle Tom's Cabin-the ideal poor, racist "white trash"-most whites that take part in the novel are contrarily very helpful towards the blacks and show great compassion towards them as well. For example, when Janie begins her story we meet the Washburns. These are the white folks for whom Nanny worked for and they are very helpful towards both Nanny and Janie by treating them as if they are part of the family. Contrary to a lot of whites at the time who treated blacks as if they were still slaves, the Washburns treat both Nanny and Janie as human beings rather than slaves, showing great respect and love. In a way they are portrayed as "angels" who truly believe in human eq uality and don't have one bit of prejudice in them. "Mah grandma raised me. Mah grandma and de white folks she worked wid...They was quality white folks up dere in West Florida. Named Washburn. She had four gran'chillun on de place and all of us played together..." (8).    Furthermore, by reading Hurston's novel, one can clearly see that all blacks place the whites on a pedestal of knowledge. According to the blacks of the novel, whites know everything and are always right; they are superior and since blacks are supposed to be ignorant and stupid, they should believe and do everything the whites say. For example, Mrs. Turner states that she trusts only white doctors because black doctors aren't as educated and skilled as the white doctors. "Don't bring me no nigger doctor tuh hang over mah sick-bed...White doctors always gits mah money" (135-136). Another example is when the Indians are evacuating the muck because they foresee a big hurricane coming and the blacks don't evacuate stating that since the whites aren't evacuating there's no reason to.

Beloved Duncan Murdered Essay

The flow of blood stopped and History recorded a tragic death. King Duncan over the past ten years has proved to be the most trusted noble. He is a good and Godly man, friend to the poor and defender of the downtrodden, but unfortunately he is no more with the people of Scotland. On the grim evening of November 10th, the great King Duncan of Scotland was murdered in his chamber. According to the porter, King Duncan was paying a visit to the castle of his Thane, Lord Macbeth, during the time of his death. The porter further mentioned that Lord Macbeth had arranged a grand feast for the king and his sons during their visit to Macbeth’s castle in celebration of Macbeth’s new titles. After the feast, drunken guests resided to their correct chamber and no disturbances were recorded throughout the night until the following morning when the King was found lying dead in his bed with multiple stab wounds to the chest. The main suspects of this unexpected murder include the King’s two sons as well as his guards. The guards were found the next morning with the murder weapons, along with blood smeared all up and down their body. However, Duncan’s sons fled the scene and are also suspected for the murder of their father. In an interview with Lord Macbeth he stated, early in the morning, two noblemen, Macduff and Lennox were called to the castle to visit King Duncan, but when they entered their king’s chamber they exclaimed â€Å"o horror, horror, horror!† Macbeth also stated, â€Å"before the investigators could examine the scene, the chamberlains were killed as a punishment for committing this gruesome deed.† Macbeth was very upset throughout the duration of the interview. He expressed his distress and great loss by showing his love and affection for the King and said he will do everything in his power to find the killer and punish him. An interview with two Scottish nobleman was also held follow the murder of King Duncan. During his interview, Lennox commented on what a terrible  night it had been. He said the wind had blown chimneys down and described how it howled so terribly, but unfortunately refrained from further questioning about the murder to uphold the family’s wishes for privacy. Macduff however agreed to answer more questions. Macduff stated during his interview, â€Å"It is speculated that the king’s sons had bribed the guards to kill Duncan because the crown passes to the nearest eligible kin.† After hearing the news of their father’s murder, King Duncan’s son’s, Malcolm and Donalbain, fearing their lives, fled Scotland. It appears to the people of Scotland that the son’s hasty departure makes them prime suspects of the crime. King Duncan’s body was removed from Macbeth’s chamber in order for burial preparations. The King’s remains will be buried in the king’s burial grounds in Scotland. Once news of the murder was released to the public, the people of Scotland began mourning for their beloved king and immediately began focusing all efforts on uncovering who committed this foul deed. Unfortunately, this tragic murder remains unsolved. Investigations will continue until this mystery is solved. Townspeople are encouraged to come forward with any and all information that may lead to solving of this crime.

Perhaps, the life that he was trying to saying goodbye with or to have its stopping period was a life that is full of misery and agony. The first stanza alone covered four symbolisms in which after interpreting those them could help identify the real meaning of the poem. Firstly, the woods here suggest life. The speaker in this poem tried to figure out whom life it was after all, although he said he thinks he knew who it was. Life may have different meanings, and that was the very reason why Robert Frost wanted to write it in plural form –woods. Secondly, the house of the woods’ owner might depict God or the giver of life. The tone of speaker offered the connotation that God doesn’t see him while he was staring at the life he provided. Thirdly, it was the village. Probably, village was the representation of heaven. Frost did not mention that the village was snowy or freezing as well as the house. God in heaven, as everybody believes, would never experience such upheaval. The last symbol was the snow. The snow represented storm or blizzard, a cold natural phenomenon, or perhaps an unpredicted but anticipated natural catastrophe that can freeze one’s life. Again on the second stanza laid four symbolisms, the little horse, farmhouse, frozen lake, and the darkest evening of the year. To the little horse, it might speak as a voice of the speaker’s conscience. It was written as little because one’s conscience never took proud over the consciousness but not as littlest because it would never be littlest to the point that one could see it as insignificant. The farmhouse suggested point of recognition to the presence of the speaker’s conscience, probably located in his heart where the speaker does not always referring to. Frozen lake might offer a clear picture of death. Lake with its deep and wide characteristic is as frightening as death. Frozen can also be seen literally as lifeless or immovable. The darkest evening of the year although it was written figuratively indicated hopelessness, helplessness and powerlessness. At certain moment, the speaker confidently admitted that he was undergoing through his roughest time. Third stanza covered symbolisms formed on different sounds such as harness bells, easy wind, and downy flake. The harness bell of the horse denoted murmuring of the conscience. It’s as if the shaking sound of the bell tried to awaken the speaker about the stopping thinking in the midst of such heavy snowfall. Easy wind offered calmness and lightness of the speaker’ burden in his heart or perhaps denoted a peace of mind while downy flake suggests tears falling. Such peace of mind might be experience only if one lets his tears flow because it is the best way to lighten up the heart’s load. In the first two lines of the last stanza, which said that ‘the woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I have promises to keep,’ (Frost, 1011) one could predict that the tone of the speaker here tried to figure out the bad and the good memories collected all through his whole existence. Those memories might be though some were somewhat upsetting, all of it could be meaningful and hard to forget. However, he still has no option but to do what he has to do just like performing the promise that he once said. Two last two stanza was identical. Robert Frost made this very ending as dramatic as it looked like. Having that style would make the readers think that the speaker still followed his heart’s desire to just do the stopping by the woods on a snowy evening which means to pause for quite sometime with the life he is living while it still on its darkest and gloomiest period. The speaker here realized not to just cut his journey as he has so many miles to go before he went asleep. Lastly, the poem although can be perceived its tone as very depressing all throughout just like a suicide note, the ending still portrayed a positive outcome and contentment. Nursing Students Perception Of Faculty Role Models Nursing Essay Abstract Background: Professional role modelling is key component in educational arena, where teachers serve as best role models for the students. It serves as a primary way to impact students search for meaning, purpose, and value in their personal and professional life.. Therefore, to be able to assess what students perceived about their faculty approach as role modelling, we conducted a study to explore the students perceptions and experiences about the faculty role modelling at a private School of Nursing in Karachi, Pakistan. Methodology: This study followed qualitative framework, considering group of diploma programme students as a case, data was collected through semi structure interviews from fifteen representatives of all three years of diploma programme. All students of the diploma programme were approached for their voluntary participation. Subsequently, purposefully equal participation was considered from all three years of the diploma programme for their representation in the study. Tape record interviews were transcribed with major thematic analysis of the verbatim. Findings: Participants in the study mentioned their disappointment with the ambiguity in their faculty as role models. While the faculty reinforced students to be equipped with the expected knowledge and demonstration of discipline, they themselves did not follow the same. The findings revealed that Professional role modelling needs to be encouraged with the provision of appropriate mentoring and continued education of nurse educators. Participants strongly felt that though the nurse educators are well equipped with clinical skills, they lack in clinical and classroom teaching skills. Conclusion: There is significant association between professional role modelling by nurse educators and students learning outcomes. Therefore, faculty members should demonstrate proper role modelling and practice what they preach while reinforcing professionalism. Provision of appropriate mentoring and continued education can facilitate nurse educators to become the role models for nursing students to follow. Traditionally, the depth or accuracy of learning is usually expressed through assessment scores without major focus on cognitive, affective or behavioral learning (Lizzio et al, 2002); this reflects the basic educational system of Pakistan too. With transition to the university education, the students are often required to meet several demands and challenges; moving more towards cognitive, affective or behavioral learning than rote memorization. With this shifting paradigm, students perceptions influence their approach towards education and influences their overall learning outcomes (Lizzio et al, 2002), and their health and coping with the challenges of education. Learning environment, course structure and teaching methodology contribute overall towards the students coping and learning within these challenges of education. On the other hand, nature and structure of higher education have an implication on students well-being as they are often concerned with poverty, and become withdrawn and psychologically distressed (Dooris, 2001b). A similar change of educational environment is usually faced by the students when they enter their nursing education. Students in nursing education are required to meet academic demands which make them feel strained. This altered state of mind often impacts negatively on their academic function and health (Seyedfatemi et al, 2007). In this journey, teachers serve as a backbone of educational arena. Similarly, their teaching approach and mode of instruction plays crucial role in the development of conceptual learning in students. Considering nursing as an learning arena of specialized skills, nurse educators has to take prime position to ingrain the knowledge and skills in young future nurses, while motivating them to be self directed learner and sound decision makers. In the same line, faculty plays a vital role in creating positive learning environment and serve as a role model in the development of knowledge, skills and attitude in students (Glicken and Merenstein, 2007). Students are required to meet the several demands of nursing education, markedly higher then what is expected in pre-nursing education level in Pakistan. Concerns of students poor coping with the academic demands and hostel stay are often reported at various forums and at different nursing programme faculty meetings, at selected School of Nursing, also highlighting students expression of uncertainty and helplessness. This alter state of mind, often make students prone for mal adaptive coping behaviours like excessive worrying, sleeplessness and feeling of loneliness; impacting negatively on their academic function and health (Seyedfatemi, Tafreshi and Hagani, 2007). This study is an identified factor of the Masters study conducted to explore the Emotional well-being of Diploma Nursing students. Since, positive, motivational and unbiased learning environment has optimistic impact on students learning outcome in university setting (Lizzio et al, 2002); Papp, Markkanen and Bonsdorff (2003: 267) have rightly stressed that, students should be treated equally and with consistency throughout their education. In the same line, faculty plays a vital role in creating positive learning environment and serve as a role model in the development of knowledge, skills and attitude in students (Glicken and Merenstein, 2007). Therefore this study was conducted to explore the students perceptions and experiences about the faculty role modelling at a private School of Nursing in Karachi, Pakistan. Methodology Interpretative paradigm was opt to assess diploma nursing students perception their subjective meanings and definitions of the emotional well-being and its related factors (Clough and Nutbrown, 2007; Creswell, 2007; Laverty, 2003; Sandelowski, 2000; Merten, 1998). Qualitative approach was considered to obtain the interpretative in-depth analysis of the experience, perceptions and understanding of research participants (Neuman, 2003; Munhall, 1989). Considering the group of diploma programme students as prospective participants of this study, a Case Study approach was used as a guide to progress in this research project, as it provides chance to the researcher to have intimate knowledge of participants feelings (Polit and Beck, 2004; Yin 2003). Case study involves exploration of case/s within a bounded system (in a specific context) like in this study being in a diploma nursing programme (Creswell, 2007). (Respondent 6) In this study, the participants identified various factors in the environment that impacted their learning and emotional health likes: high expectations, ambiguity in role modelling, and teaching approach of faculty members. In addition, large classrooms played a crucial role in students learning and eventually on their emotional health. 4.2.2.1 High Expectations Participants in this study reported too many expectations by the faculty members and academia at SELECTED SCHOOL OF NURSING . Three participants strongly mentioned that they should not be considered as born nurses by the faculty members. When faculty are hired they should be taught several things before giving them teaching responsibility. Students are students not born learners. (Respondent 6) They felt that the high expectations in clinical and theory made them stressful. Furthermore, stress of going on clinical made them anxious. To make learning environment positive, they emphasized that faculty should be more supportive and flexible to understand the students problems. Clinical take too much stressor, during performance and skills. We need time to adjust and faculty expect to do each and every thing like skills lab, in front of patient and in front of staff there. It gives stress. (Respondent 12) Teachers expect that on clinical we should know every thing and when we dont know, she doesnt teach us, and say why you dont know this? We are students and in learning process. This thing disturbs students a lot. (Respondent 5) To support students at clinical, one of the participants stressed on the need for more faculty coordination with and emotional support of the students. You [faculty] should keep yourself in students shoe and see how much stress you are giving to studentsYou should coordinate with students more to understand what problems they have? With some personal problem sometimes students does some mistake on clinical and then they are put on learning contract, without thinking what they are going through. Coordination should be done with students. Though we have advisors who guide us but teachers should emotionally support students. (Respondent 2) One of the participants found challenges related to the transition from life at home to life in the hostel and university: In hostel, we have to do many things by ourselves which our parents use to do for us. Like we have to wash our clothes we have to make breakfast and no one to wake-up us. Besides that clinical! When I have to go clinical I even dont sleep previous night. I have disturbed sleep and I become very upset when I go on clinical. (Respondent 14) To study participants, the high expectations set by faculty members at clinical also resulted in poor image of the students. They were highly concerned about their image in front of the faculty members. To participants, a similar image is communicated to the other faculty members with their shift in clinical placement and with their progression to next academic semester and/or year. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦then these impression goes to other faculty, my image was disturbed in front of all. (Respondent 6) Most of the participants suggested that the students should be provided with ample time to practice their learnt skills and concepts in a non threatening environment under faculty guidance. During clinical, students should be keep relax because these are all practical work and with practical work; more practice makes you perfect. When we are more anxious we even forgot small skills. Teacher should remind us but in relax manner because we are dealing with lives of patients. (Respondent 14) One of the participants also talked about the difference in academic and summer clinical as: I dont know but I feel so because when we go on clinical we are in so much tension that if are going to be put on learning plan. Thats make us more fearful I find summer clinical are different because fear of learning plan was not there. (Respondent 14) Therefore, for policy implementation, participant suggested that: People who are running institution should not take students as sometimes machines. They are here for studies, should get particular stuff and should go back. Yes, there are requirement of institution that should be fulfilled. But still they should consider and policy should be flexible à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ At time it can be changed, it is not so as it is done by somebody from another planet that we cant change. There should be ways. (Respondent 10) 4.2.2.2 Assessment Criteria Students, in each semester at SELECTED SCHOOL OF NURSING , are required to take multiple subjects and face various assessment criteria. In addition, they are required to meet the clinical component of all the courses. As a result, they complained of being overwhelmed and felt that their productivity got impacted when they had to meet all the requirements. Dont give to much stress to students so there others things are not being suffered. Gap should be given after clinical, before the assignments are expected, so we can work in more productive way. (Respondent 2) Another participant suggested that they should be given ample time after clinical to refresh themselves. Students go on clinical from too long hours so they should get time for refreshing themselves. (Respondent 3) Students, with their transition to university education, also faced difficulty with time management. They always seemed to be struggling to meet the academic deadlines. Similar concern of time management was raised by the participants with the examination schedule, which often gave them stress. Another thing is that, all paper comes together. In a week we have 3-4 paper together and we cannot utilize time effectively [translated]. It gives stress. (Respondent 9) The mostly impacting factors are exams. In which me often feel a lot of burden because there are too many things scheduled together. Then our clinical comes simultaneously and then assignment comes Then you can imagine how much stress it can cause. (Respondent 2) Highlighting similar concerns of time management and university academic schedule, one of the study participants suggested provision of ample time to the students to prepare for the examination and the clinical. Students should be given enough time so they can easily do preparation for themselves. (Respondent 1) 4.2.2.3 Ambiguity in Role Modelling Participants in the study mentioned their disappointment with the ambiguity in their faculty as role models. While the faculty reinforced students to be equipped with the expected knowledge and demonstration of discipline, they themselves did not follow the same. One of the participants reinforced that the faculty should also demonstrate respect for their uniforms when they emphasized that the students should observe a proper dress code. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ Faculty says that our uniform should be perfect but there are faculty whose buttons of Koti are open, there dupattas are inside their koti and they are very senior faculty. (Respondent 8) The participants verbalized feelings of uncertainty when the verbal emphasis and role demonstration of the faculty were not congruent. These ambiguities made them feel lost and being targeted. One participant shared her feelings when she received vague instructions from the faculty as: Every time we (student) have to listen. On clinicalà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ teachers are saying stay with your patient though we are alone with our work patient says go away because we cant stay on their heads. We are lost. (Respondent 8) To participants, the faculty role model also counted in keeping up the image of nursing profession. We are taught professionalism, I have seen teachers un professional in class, using language as they are at home à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ what impression we are giving to outsiders. (Respondent 6) Students in nursing profession are expected to take responsibility of the action they take. While sharing an incident that took place at clinical setting, one of the participants emphasized that the faculty members should be honest and take responsibility for their action. She mentioned that as a result, she herself was emotionally disturbed and was unable to take care of the patient as expected. The mistake was done by faculty but on asking by staff she said it is students mistake à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ I feel I cant say anything at that time à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ Yes it has an impact as I couldnt explain medication to patient properly Teacher should be honest with their student and should take responsibility of their action. (Respondent 12) Referring to the responsible attribute of faculty, one of the participants mentioned: If the faculty is fully prepared for their classes then they have right to scold us and expect from us but there are other teachers who are not prepare themselves and have too much expectation from usà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ If they are not prepare they should clearly mention; she can have problem as a human. (Respondent 6) Another participant mentioned that this ambiguity on the part of the faculty as role model had ruined her expectation with the institution. I came with very high expectation that I will learn their culture, their languages and I will learn the art of this culture. Then I came I found to some extend teachers abusive. I found that even they themselves are not professionals and asking me à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ they [faculty members] scold for what I dont know. (Respondent 10) One participant emphasized on appropriate role modelling as: There are teachers who are prepared and excellent in teaching and if they expect/scold. I dont mind at all. They should be proper role model. (Respondent 6) For instance, few participants were open to accept flaws in the faculty role model. Along with that they suggested faculty to be open and transparent with the students. Yeh, student should respect their faculty, but faculty should respect her students also. (Respondent 13) 4.2.2.4 Teaching Approach of Faculty In this study, the participants have identified various factors related to teaching approaches that impacts their learning and emotional health, including faculty preparedness, lack of positive reinforcement, and self directed learning. 4.2.2.4.1 Faculty Preparedness One of the participants in this study, highlighting the concern of faculty knowledge and experience, shared that: Then again I identified that they are prefect nurses but they are not perfect teacher. For being a teacher they need to go through all the strategies and methodologies. They (faculty) are the beginners as I am. They are trying to find their own way in the ocean of institution. So the difference is of 3-4 years of nursing knowledge otherwise its same. (Respondent 10) The participants also discussed about the teaching methodology used by teachers in classroom setting at SELECTED SCHOOL OF NURSING . They expressed feelings of their time being wasted when faculty did not discuss but regurgitated information in class. In some classes teachers just read from transparency. If they want to teach like this they just forward us the soft copy and we will read on our own. This will save your time and our time, and their expectations are too high. (Respondent 6) One participant commented on faculty preparation in clinical area as: They [faculty] should come prepare with their theory in class and in clinical. (Respondent 6) To ensure students learning, the participants suggested that proper training need to be given to faculty members to develop their teaching skills. Teachers should be nicely guided by the institution so they can guide students properly. (Respondent 10) 4.2.2.4.2 Lack of Positive Reinforcement The participants emphasized on the importance of positive reinforcement provided by faculty and verbalized their feelings of hopelessness when they did not receive encouragement from the faculty. I feel there is no use of doing hard work. If I have any weakness teacher should told me how I can make it better. (Respondent 6) They reported that they get motivated and their self-confidence increases when they receive timely feedback from faculty on their (the students) areas of improvement in a non-threatening manner. According to one participant: If a student does something nice they should get encouragement for it Students thinking gets limited when they are not provided encouragement. (Respondent 3) Another participant suggested: Faculty should give constructive feedback on ongoing basis so student improve because it is wrong to give negative feedback at the end if ongoing feedback for improvement was not given. (Respondent 11) 4.2.2.4.3 Lack of Self Directed Learning Participants in this study emphasized on need for self directed learning instead of long direct contact teaching hours at SELECTED SCHOOL OF NURSING . Curriculum should be like that the teacher should give the overview and there should be some how less hours class, credit should be low, so we will use more library and LRC [learning resource centre], so we are more clear (Respondent 14) Students become submissive and dependent on the educators when they do not receive enough opportunity to be self-directed learners. They highlighted that the passive role developed in the nurses during academia continues in their professional life as well. They [faculty] are not professional when they behave with students à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ thats why the girls [student] are afraid and they break them [students], they break them all nicely, badly damaged showing you are a nurse, nobody else. You cant take decisions, not for the patient and for your self. Then they are send in ward and very nicely they go under doctors, why? Because they are taught here like this. (Respondent 10) One of the participants proposed that faculty should respect individual learning capacity of students and provide opportunities for self directed learning. Allow us study in a way we want, every student strategy is different. If you accept that every teachers teaching strategy is different, why cant you accept that every students learning capacity is different. (Respondent 8) Likewise, participants emphasized that faculty openness and flexibility helped the students in learning and provided them comfort in clarifying their concepts with faculty. If the teacher is very co-operative and if she understands your psychology if she knows your way of learning you will be more close and free to ask when you have difficulty understanding some concepts. If teacher is very dominating like she is very stern and she is not flexible, so you will never ask anything. (Respondent 6) Discussion: Papp, Markkanen and Bonsdorff (2003: 267) have stressed that students should be treated equally and with consistency throughout their education. Equal treatment of students is also highlighted in the principles and perspective of setting-based approach for health promoting university. Participants in this study highlighted that though the institution / universitys rules and regulations, and academic policies are uniform for all of its students, in practice, discrimination appears widespread. They felt that they were discriminated with students of other nursing and undergraduate programmes in the university. An optimistic, motivating, and unbiased environment of learning has a positive impact on students learning outcome in the University setting (Lizzio, Wilson and Simons, 2002). In the same line, participants also highlighted various factors, like positive reinforcement, promotion of self directed learning and positive teaching approach of faculty, contributing towards their positive learning outcome and enhancing their emotional well-being. Professional nurse educators are responsible for students learning in clinical practice (Papp, Markkanen and Bonsdorff, 2003). Simultaneously, the teaching approach of faculty creates the environment of either rote memorization or conceptual learning in education. Rothstein, Wilder and Jacobsen (2007:10) have emphasized that a balanced curriculum should be concerned not only with what subjects schools teach but also with how schools teach them. The participants in this study felt that the appropriate implementation of the nursing curriculum can soothe their emotional distress and could also provide them positive learning outcome. Teaching is a special skill and medical university often come with little or no training or preparation on how to communicate knowledge and experience to the students (Glicken and Merenstein, 2007); a similar situation prevails in nursing education. The participants felt that the teaching skills of faculty members need to be strengthened as they have difficu lty in communicating their concepts and experiences to the students. Agitation was found among participants as, to them, it wastes their time. Curriculum implementation and faculty teaching approach promote self directed learning in students. Along with that, positive reinforcement in nursing education strengthens and supports students positive academic outcome. Hagbaghery, Salsali and Ahmadi (2004) found negative impact on students self-esteem and self confidence when they were not facilitated by their faculty for their problem solving and decision making skills. Ruth (2002: 120) has described self-esteem as a positive regard to oneself and has found it as a key component in restoring and maintaining mental and physical health. Consequently, participants found positive reinforcement as a motivational factor for students. In the same line, clinical practice is considered an important part of nursing education (Papp, Markkanen and Bonsdorff, 2003). Participants reported that they got motivated and their self-confidence increased when they received feedback from faculty from time to time on their areas of improvement in a non-threatening manner. Glicken and Merenstein (2007) have reported that correcting students in front of patients was found to be unacceptable in some cultures; therefore, cultural acceptance and environmental feasibility need to be considered while providing timely feedback to students. Seyedfatemi, Tafreshi and Hagani (2007) found that a large amount of preparatory work for clinical as stressful for students. Participants also felt that high expectation in clinical and theory made them stressful. Participants responses were consistent with the findings of the External Review Report of SELECTED SCHOOL OF NURSING ( 2008) that highlights no promotion of self-directed learning in the dip loma programme. Students become submissive and dependent on the educators when they do not receive enough opportunity to be self-directed learners. Seyedfatemi, Tafreshi and Hagani (2007: 2 of 10) found that, Nursing students had to devote long hours to study, were given multiple assignments, and lacked free time à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦. Blaming External Pressure for the Tragic Decline of Tess in Tess of the D'Urbervilles From the beginning of the novel 'Tess of the d'Urbervilles' by Thomas Hardy, it is clear that the main character, Tess, is not going to have an easy life. She is deliberately targeted by cruel "Immortals" as their sadistic plaything. This is symbolized during the club dance, where Tess is "one of the white company" but is the only one to have a bright "red ribbon" in her hair. The mark of blood is on her from the start. Whilst Tess is going to market she accidentally kills the family's horse. Her own guilt for this accidental death is the first stage in a long series of incidents leading to Tess's tragic death at the end of the novel. Social and environmental pressures rank high on the list of causes of Tess's tragedy. In the late 19th century there were many changes taking place in rural England. The advances achieved as a result of the Industrial Revolution meant that even in the countryside farming was becoming mechanized and there were fewer manual labour jobs for the simple peasant people to do. This meant many people had to leave their town where they had spent most of their lives to go and find work. So, for example, the Durbeyfields' departing from Marlott after the death of "Sir John", was only part of a greater rural upheaval. Tess's search for work to make up for the loss of her family's horse led her to the sinister and blatantly predatory Alec d'Urberville who she initially thought was a relative. The sexual double standards typical of late Victorian society were also clear at this point. Females who sinned paid a much higher social price for their mistakes. But Tess did not want to sin - she was pres... ... reach Stonehenge it is obvious that Tess's life of never ending pain and suffering will soon be over. Stonehenge is significant as it was a place for sacrifices in pagan times. The cruel "Immortals" have at last brought Tess to the place of sacrifice - they will soon end their sadistic "sport". I conclude that Hardy wrote this book to show that "individuals have no control over their lives, but are at the mercy of impersonal and inexorable forces", as stated in the resource notes to the Cambridge edition of the novel. From the beginning Tess's destiny was mapped out. She was born to suffer and eventually die. Tess was in the end a victim of the circumstances of late Victorian rural society, with all its cruel discrimination against erring females, but even more so of cruel supernatural forces who had marked her out as their victim from the beginning.

Race and Loyalty in Othello    William Shakespeare`s Othello is centralized around the conflicts that are, for the most part, tied in with racial issues and questions of loyalty. These conflicts stem from the society that encompass the couple, as well as from the couple themselves.   Indeed the couple are entrenched in different social strata, class and ethnicity.   The female protagonist is the daughter of a highly-respected Venetian senator: Brabantio. Othello--also known as the Moor--is a foreigner, black in color, has a past filled with tragic and exotic tales and has proved himself worthy of the title General in the Venetian army. Even before we, as an audience, have had a chance to meet Othello and Desdemona we learn that the match is considered as disgusting as it is outrageous. From the very beginning everyone and everything seem to work against them, but in the hope that love will conquer all we do not allow ourselves to despair as yet.   Perhaps similar to the way in which Romeo and Juliet are famously bequeathed to be ‘star-crossed lovers’ on the onset of the play. Our assumption of Othello and Desdemona are met in the first act. After having explained why they love each other the world seems to accept this alliance. Introduction Having just started as a trainee at the Corporate Communications Department of Emirates Group, my line manager has tasked me with preparing this set of introductory training materials, on business information in general, for new members of staff in the department, to increase my knowledge and enhance communication skills. Different types of business information, their source and purpose will be discussed throughout this paper, outlining various types of communication that can take place. I will also deliberate how KFC source and communicate effectively, with a true purpose, summarizing with a conclusion. Definition of Information Information comes from a wide variety of sources, in varying shape and form, with numerous qualities. Communicated in time, being fit for purpose, and containing the right level of detail it becomes critical in decision making. Although there is contrast between the value and cost of information, it needs to be: Available Accurate Reliable Objective Relevant Complete On time As defined in the Business Dictionary, information is, â€Å"Data that is accurate and timely, specific and organized for a purpose, presented within a context that gives it meaning and relevance, and can lead to an increase in understanding and decrease in uncertainty†. Once prepared and, structured accordingly, data becomes information. Information adds value, and once facts and figures have been organised into information it has meaning, intended to be interpreted. Information gathering may be performed internally, within an organization, collecting information on sales performance, production output, or maintenance reliability. It may also be accomplished externally, outside the organisation, harvesting information on markets, competitors and customers. Information is valuable because it can affect behavior, a decision, or an outcome. For example, if a maintenance manager is told the reliability of the fleet has weakened, they may use this information as a reason to increa se the maintenance budget or up-skill and further develop the maintenance engineers. However, information is considered valueless if matters remain unchanged, following its consumption. Information Types Organisations, such as KFC, use various types of information, alongside ways to communicate. Verbal – This is the easiest and quickest way to communicate; however, it may not always be more effective; KFC communicate verbally to their customers, over the counter. They inquire about your current order – what you would like to eat and drink. The server will also try to up-sell, possibly suggesting to super-size or add a desert, over-and-above your original request. Written – Words, pictures, charts; from sources such as publications, books, journals, and newspapers; Once an order is taken on the EPOS system the information is transferred to the kitchen, as text on a screen. MultiMedia – Multiple forms of media, together; data, text, graphics, audio, video, etc. like an interactive webpage, with audio; You can order online, through the KFC website, which combines names and prices, alongside pictures of their products. On-Screen – Multimedia TV and CD-ROMs that combine text, graphics, animation, audio and video; Routinely you will witness advertisements on television of offers and new promotional activity for the food chain. Web-Based Information – Combines multimedia technologies and streams them over the Internet; access to rich information anywhere, anytime; When surfing websites you will notice many interactive banner advertisements for KFC, which when clicked will take you to their website, gathering valuable information on their consumer, of where they were transferred from and when. There may also be an interactive flick-book menu to browse. Information Sources Information comes from four different sources: Internal – An organisation’s own intellectual property, such as financial records, customer records, order information, maintenance records, etc. usually gathered from their respective department records – Production, Sales, Finance, Marketing, Maintenance, Administration or HR. KFC have all of this information at hand, within their database systems. Their Electronic Point-of-Sale tills gather all the order and some production information. They have Accounting applications connected directly to the Sales database, which generates the organisation’s financial information. The website gathers consumer intelligence on who wants what, from where, at what time. External – Collected from outside an organization, such as market research, the Internet, newspapers, bulletins, reports, publications, usually from the government, trade groupings, or commercial databases. When you are stopped in the street and asked if you would like a menu, and the issuer asks you a few questions, the information if being gathered to provide market intelligence to the company, which in turn aides decision making. Primary – Collected first-hand by the investigator, by possibly interview or questionnaire, gathered for a specific purpose. It generally is a more costly method, but provides more specific, quality information. Secondary – Gathered second-hand, by someone else, for another purpose, however can still be used – lower cost, though generally not as specific and of reduced quality. Information Purpose In one word, ‘measure’. It is critical in a business to measure and compare actual performance against what was budgeted for. Using historical records is one method, to make comparisons; however, targets may be set to stretch the performance of an organisation. If costs are more than expenditure then it must take action to remedy the situation. Market research reports can monitor altering market conditions, or possibly an increase or demise in demand of products and services. This will help KFC identify whether there current offerings are suitable for that specific time, or if they should pull some from their current available product list. Maintaining records of what currently employed is a legality, to calculate salaries and benefits. Records hold any details, including: Date of joining Name Address Salary Benefits Qualifications Department Title Days absent, with reasoning Holiday entitlement Training and development records Conclusion Managers must have timely, reliable, quality information, as they have to make important decisions. In order to make the business successful the right decisions need to be made, at the right time – correct decisions are only made when this sort of information is both available and used, in time. Doe Season

Doe Season In the short story Doe season, David Kaplan creates a character named Andrea, who would rather be called Andy. Doe Season is not simply a story about a young girl’s hunting trip with her father and friends. During the few days that Andy is on the hunting trip, she takes an incredible journey trying to find out who she really is. Usually, hunting deer is an event reserved for young men and their fathers. Yet, it is through this outing that Andy experiences a rite of passage into womanhood. All through her life Andy has acknowledged herself as being able to relate to male figures and being more similar to her father than her mother.Andy is a young girl who enters the world of a boy's rite of passage to adulthood, experiences an internal journey through the group’s teasing, the killing of the doe, and the transformation of changing from Andy to Andrea. As Andy reflects on past journeys, the family trip to the beach stands out in her mind. She is very uncomfortab le with her feminine side. Unlike her mother, Andy and her father were both nervous in the ocean. Her mother swam and splashed with animal-like delight while her father smiling shyly, held his white arms above the waist-deep water as if afraid to get them wet (513).Andy associates more readily with her father. The naturalness of womanhood only makes Andy uncomfortable. After her mother’s top falls down in the ocean, Andy is embarrassed and quickly looks around to see if anyone has noticed (514). â€Å"The nipples like two dark eyes,† symbolizes Andy’s feelings that being feminine is similar to being grotesque instead of having elegant and beautiful qualities. Yet, this whole time Andy is unconcerned if anyone has noticed how foolish her father must look in the water trying to stay dry (514).In the beginning of the story, there is emphasis on the woods always remaining the same. The woods stretch inevitably and offer a sense of security and safety. Even while hun ting, the same woods lead back toward home where Andy’s mother is waiting for them. She is there and we are here, the thought satisfied Andy (511). When Mac, Charlie’s son, mentions to Andy that Canada is nearby, Andy rejects the idea. These same woods could not possibly go to a foreign country that is not part of home. Just as Andy is emerging into a new person, the woods around her are no longer the same s they were when she originally left home by the end of the journey. Both Charlie and Mac do not like, nor understand the idea that Andy is coming along on their hunting trip to the Pennsylvania countryside. Charlie continually questioning Andy’s father: Charlie Spoon was driving. â€Å"I don’t understand why she’s coming,† he said to her father. â€Å"How old is she anyway—eight? † â€Å"Nine,† her father replied. â€Å"She’s small for her age. † â€Å"So—nine. What’s the difference? Sheâ €™ll just add to the noise and get tired besides† (511). This goes to show that Charlie does not believe that girls or women should go hunting.He does not think that Andy is capable of keeping up with the men, this is very stereotypical. Culture has changed and it is now acceptable for women to go hunting and do outdoor activities. There are many women and girls who go hunting with their fathers in today’s world, but there are still men that think it’s a man’s job. Andy’s father does not see a problem with Andy going hanging with the guys. He sticks up for her every time Charlie and Mac ask why she’s coming with. When Charlie repeatedly stated that he didn’t understand why she was coming, Andy’s father says, â€Å"She can walk me to death.And she’ll bring good luck, you’ll see† (511). He is okay with Andy coming along because she wants too. He sees no difference between him and Andy going hunting than Ch arlie and Mac. Doe Season ends with Andy watching â€Å"her father’s knife sliced thickly from chest to bell to crotch† (521). When Andy’s father begins to gut the deer, Andy has an epiphany. She realizes that, no matter how much she tries, she cannot become part of the male society. She then runs away from everyone. This gesture of turning her back and fleeing from her male companions shows that she finally accepts the fact that she is different from men.The transformation within her is already complete. Then she listens to the sound of the wind which aptly reminds her of the â€Å"terrible, now inevitable sea† (521). The sea now becomes inevitable, owing to the fact the she recognizes she can no longer deny her true identity. She turns from the woods.
